StumbleUpon Marketing

August 25, 2010

I’ve always been into Social Media but like most people I’ve only really put my time and effort into Facebook and Twitter, I used to love Digg.com but fell out of love with it when it’s crashed my server when I got a home page ;-)

Recently though I’ve started to play around with some simple StumbleUpon Marketing strategies, nothing special or “out of the box” but in the short time I’ve been testing I’m getting some amazing results. Now the results aren’t helping me financially yet, but what is interesting is the volume of traffic that I’m now getting from StumbleUpon and the average time on site of a user that was referred by a StumbleUpon link.

I’ve got a site that i use just social marketing to promote to it, I’m currently only using Facebook, Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit to generate the traffic. Now this is where it’s really interesting for me.

  • Facebook is getting me 47% of my traffic which is kind of expected. The average time on site from a Facebook referral is 0.36 minutes (36 seconds) which is pretty low for my standards. I would expect a minimum time on site from any traffic source to this site to be 1.25 minutes.
  • StumbleUpon is currently bringing me 34% of my traffic which I personally thing is freaking amazing especially when all I’m doing is Stumbling my post and sharing it with 3 – 5 other friends, and considering the Facebook network I’m reaching out to is over 10k people.. Now this is what blows my mind the most, the average time on site from a StumbleUpon referral is 3.46 minutes! That is completely insane and just blows me away.

The main reason it blows me away is because ALL Internet Marketers (myself included) teach to market on Facebook because of the sheer number of quality targeted traffic you can get to your site. For me I’m looking at my traffic stats in disbelief and am already working on how I can exploit the StubmpleUpon.com traffic to increase my profits. Now I’m not saying to discount Facebook as a traffic source, but what I am saying is open your eyes and minds and start using StumbleUpon.com!

For those of you who are reading this post that are my clients, don’t worry i’ll be sharing strategies with you all shortly on how to maximise your StumbleUpon.com traffic. If your not one of my clients and you want to learn make sure you subscribe to my email list on the right hand side all the way up the top as I might be nice enough to share some awesome strategies with you ;-)
